Movie Plot: Ryan Bingham works for a HR resource consultancy firm that specializes in termination assistance, and travels to workplaces across the United States, laying off companies and firming on behalf of employers. He also gives persuasive speeches using similarities, “What’s in your backpack?” To highlight the virtues of a life free from the burdensome relationships of people as well as things. Once flying, Ryan has no fixed abode, recalls his travels again, and aspires to be the seventh and youngest person to earn 1 million consecutive flying miles with American Airlines. During his visit, he meets another frequent flyer named Alex, and they begin a casual relationship.
Ryan is recalled to his company’s office in Omaha, Nebraska. Natalie Kanner, a young and ambitious new freighter, promotes a program designed to reduce costs by streamlining video conferencing. Ryan worries that the program could be seen as isolated and indifferent, arguing that Natalie knows nothing about the reality of the firing process or how to handle people in trouble. He then plays the role of a fired employee to show his inexperience. Ryan’s boss hires Natalie to bring him to the end of his next round to show him the rope.
