I was not disappointed in the least. I was hoping that the film wouldn’t be an exaggerated, over-produced and sad version of the original, and I was pleasantly surprised that the story played out without the excessive extraneous embellishments that Hollywood so often relies on.

It was great to see how the screenplay added extra material that was not in the book, and it enhanced the story to make it even better. The characters were completely interpreted to the intent of writer Andy Weir, and nothing more was done. The pacing and editing of this film was some of the best I’ve seen, in fact, some of the book’s one-liners have been done so quickly that it kept the story moving forward. One thing that struck me is that everyone seemed to be enjoying it, and I think this may be a testament to the originality and uniqueness of the book. I believe that anyone who reads the book is fascinated and engaged with the story from beginning to end, and it is possible that it unfolds at all stages of production; Acting, sets, sound, everything. All they knew was that they had some great material to work with and they ran with it.
