story:

In a secret facility located in the Louisiana Swamplands, scientist Alec Holland and his wife Linda invented a bio-restorative formula that would solve any nation’s food shortage problems. Ferret and Bruno – thugs working for Nathan Ellery – break into Alec’s lab, kick him out, and plant a bomb in the facility. Alec awoke as soon as the bomb went off, and he fled into the swamp in flames.

His body was soaked in a bio-restorative formula, and it infused the plant life of the swamp, filling it with Alec’s consciousness and memories. Newly conscious plant life created a human form and rose from the swamp to the swampy thing, the latest in a long line of Earth elements when the Greens were in need of protection.
