story:

The evil trade union, led by Nute Gunray, plans to take over the peaceful world of Naboo. The Jedi Knights Qui-Gon the Genie and Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to face the leaders. But not everything goes to plan. The two Jedi escape, and go to Naboo with their new Gungan friend, Jar Jar Binks, to warn Queen Amidala, but the droids have already begun to capture Naboo and the queen is not safe there.

Eventually, they land on Tatooine, where they become friends with a young boy named Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon is curious about the boy and sees a bright future for him. The group must now find a way to reach Coruscant and eventually resolve this trade dispute, but someone else is hiding in the shadows.

As a devout fan of the entire Star Wars phenomenon, I get more frustrated with comments on how this new Star Wars doesn’t stand up to the original. For those who remember the original, it was equally full of bad acting, bad dialogue, and flat characters. Star Wars movies are meant to be fun, nothing more. And The Phantom Menace is just that. Who can deny the excitement of a light-saber duel, the thrill of a pod race, or the sheer beauty of exotic locations? Many are hoping that the content of the saga will mature with them, but Lucas’ heart is still where he was in 1977 (though perhaps more profit-oriented).
