story:

Erik Marsh of the Prescott, Arizona, Prescott Fire Department fighting a wildfire in 2007 is dismayed when a Type 1 or “hotshot” front line forest fire fighting crew remotely dismisses his operational suggestions for his area’s misery. . To change this, Marsh receives approval from the mayor to attempt to organize an unprecedented certified municipal-based Hotshot crew for Prescott.

To that end, Marsh is in need of new recruits, including the young barren, Brendan McDonough, to undergo rigorous training and aptitude testing for the most dangerous firefighting duty. Along the way, the new team faces the challenge and the venerable Granite Mountain Hotshots are born. In doing so, all men, especially McDonough, are transformed as new experiences and maturity are achieved in fire-forged camaraderie. This is all put to the test with the infamous Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013 that will demand efforts and sacrifices that no one can ignore.
