story:

The first same-sex marriage took place in Spain since the Roman Imperial era on 8 June 1901. Two women, Marcela Gracia Ibius and Elisa Sánchez Loriga, attempt to marry in A Corua (Galicia, Spain). 1885. They meet at the school where they both study. What begins as a close friendship ends in a romantic relationship that they must keep a secret.

Marcella’s parents are suspicious and send her abroad for a few years. When she returns, the reunion with Alyssa is magical and they decide to share a life together. Using contemporary filmmaking styles with dramatic dialogue, conflict scenes, character building, etc. to advance the plot, doesn’t enhance it in my view. While critics were “rolling an eye” and complaining about how slow it was moving, I was walking through an art gallery, hinging on moments beautifully captured in the B&W landscape.
