Then there’s the kind of movie that could have gone horribly wrong. Well, it had all the ingredients – good girls, bad girls, mysterious college hottie, typical college teen nose piercings and tattoos, dysfunctional families and broken marriages..the list would go on. But what does all this affect the heavy-handed emotional texture of the film. An intense romance develops between Tessa and Hardin in a traditional but very mysterious way.
It doesn’t have many twists and the story is simple. However, it gives you the feeling that something really unusual will happen – whether or not it happens is up to you to find out. Makeout scenes are plenty but not OTT. They are beauty and complement to storytelling. Director Jenny Gage handles it well with her young, good-looking actors retaining their side-by-side image.
Audiences will connect with their characters and root for both of them. The pace is slow but in line with the moments that will stick with you. Overall, AFTER is the kind of college romance everyone expects – it has equal amounts of love, lust, and heartbreak!
