story:

It is November 30, 1962. Native Brit George Faulkner, an English professor at a Los Angeles area college, is finding it difficult to cope with life. Jim, his personal partner of sixteen years, died in a car accident eight months earlier while he was visiting with family. Jim’s family was not going to tell George about the death or accident, let him attend the funeral. On this day, George decides to settle his affairs before committing suicide that evening.

As he regularly and rapidly prepares for suicide and the aftermath of the suicide, George reminisces about his life with Jim. But George spends the day with a variety of people who see a man sadder than usual and who influence his own thoughts about what he is going to do. Those include Carlos, a Spanish immigrant/aspiring actor/gigolo who recently moved to Los Angeles; Charlie, his best friend whom he knew from England, is the drama queen of a woman who, despite her sexual relationship, has a romantic desire for her best friend.
